Additional Information

Esther Dreifuss-Kattan, PhD, ATR will provide a vivid depiction of the inner experience of the cancer patient as revealed by the accounts of and pictures created by the patients themselves. She will discuss how psychotherapy and art therapy can be valuable additions to the treatment of cancer patients, fostering creativity which, in turn, can be the vehicle for achieving new psychological integration even sometimes in the face of impending death.

Esther Dreifuss-Kattan holds a Ph.D. in Art Therapy/Psychooncology and a Ph.D. in Psychoanalysis. She has She has worked extensively with adult and pediatric cancer patients, survivors and their families.

She is the Group Facilitator for "The Healing Through Art Group" at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center's Simms/Mann UCLA Center for Integrative Oncology and the Founder and Supervisor of the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation’s Art Therapy Programs that provides Art Therapy Programs free of charge for teens and children at the Jonathan Jacques Children’s Cancer Center at the Miller’s Children’s Hospital in Long Beach and at the UCLA Matell Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
