When the South African government decides to make Afrikaans the official language in her school, Sarafina (Leleti Khumalo) takes to the streets with her fellow students. Her antigovernment views become even more intense when her teacher (Whoopi Goldberg) is imprisoned.


Meleko Mokgosi Film Series In conjunction with Bread, Butter, and Power, artist Meleko Mokgosi has selected films addressing colonialism, democracy, and liberation across the continent of Africa, themes that he explores through his large-scale episodic painting cycles.
