Axé Bahia: The Power of Art in an Afro-Brazilian Metropolis examines the significance of the city of Salvador da Bahia, Brazil to Afro-Brazilian artistic practices from the mid-20th century to today.

In this opening program Roberto Conduru, Axé Bahia exhibition co-curator and Associate Professor of Art History and Theory at the Art Institute, Rio de Janeiro State University converses with contemporary artist Ayrson Heráclito about the exhibition, religious and cultural traditions in Bahia, and more.

Opening reception follows from 7–10pm.
