Additional Information

OPEN UP: Microaggressions Photo Display aims to showcase the diversity of our communities and their experiences with microaggressions. These offhand comments or questions can degrade students for aspects of their identities.

Subtle or unintentionally offensive remarks like, “where are you from?” or “you’re so pretty for a [insert ethnic group]” can negatively impact individuals of different social identities. In this photo display series, our goal is to raise awareness about the pervasiveness of this issue on our campus.

While we ourselves may experience microaggressions, we may also inadvertently microaggress others. It is important to recognize and take ownership of these instances, as learning from our mistakes can lead to greater self-awareness and understanding.
