Additional Information

“The marionettes are beautiful small works of great art that, despite the long strings in this production, Burkett handles with shocking mastery…your eye is always drawn down-string to the puppets into which he has so authentically infused with life. His talent is simply extraordinary.” —Globe and Mail (Toronto, ON)

This utterly masterful ‘end of the world romance’ is told through the brilliant theater artistry of the one-of-a-kind marionette maker Ronnie Burkett.

Penny Plain sits in her overstuffed chair, listening to the news of civilization’s inevitable end, and then the outside chaos invades her sanctuary.

With a cast including survivalists, a serial killer, a cross-dressing banker, talking dogs and mysterious strangers, Penny Plain is a poignant and disturbing drawing-room comedy of apocalyptic proportions.
