Have you seen our Happenings poster promoting m.ucla.edu? You may have noticed an alien looking symbol in one of the speech bubbles. No, it was not a printing error, a character from space invaders, or alien hieroglyphics. It’s a QR Code!
QR Codes, which were popularized in Japan, work just like barcodes, but they can act as links to web sites. To scan a QR Code, you will need two things: a smart phone with a camera, and a QR Code reader app. There are many free QR Code reader apps available. Please visit the app store for your particular phone to download one.
Here are some free readers you can download for free:
iOS: QuickMark
Android: QuickMark
Palm WebOS: QR deCODEr
Blackberry: ScanLife Barcode Reader
Once you have an app, point your camera at the Happenings poster and scan the code.
Happy scanning!
