Additional Information

In this teacher preview, investigate South Africa’s difficult history of apartheid with UCLA history professor William Worger; join curator Gunilla Knape, Hasselblad Foundation, for an exhibition walkthrough of Ernest Cole Photographer; and view ephemera from South Africa’s first free election with Betsy Quick, the Fowler’s director of education and curatorial affairs.

Sharpen your view as you participate in a photography workshop, and explore curricular connections with fellow teachers to find ways you can use the history of apartheid to illuminate civil rights issues in U.S. history as well as present-day injustices.

Light refreshments will be provided.
