Opera UCLA: "The Mother of Us All" by Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein

Friday, May 18, 8pm Sunday, May 20, 2pm Tuesday, May 22, 8pm Thursday, May 24, 8pm

Startlingly timely, as fresh today as when it premiered in 1947, this new production of Virgil Thomson’s and Gertrude Stein's groundbreaking mid-century salute to women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony is an operatic meditation on the movement for women’s suffrage in the United States.

Conducted by Andreas Mitisek, music director of Long Beach Opera, with stage direction by professor Michael Hackett from the UCLA Department of Theater, featuring designers from the Department of Theater and undergraduate actors from the School of Music.

The production is a collaboration between Opera UCLA, the UCLA Department of Theater, UCLA Philharmonia and the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
