Additional Information

Lourdes Portillo and Susana Muñoz’s Oscar-nominated Las Madres documents the courage of a group of Argentine women who gathered weekly in Buenos Aires to remember those who "disappeared" between 1976 and 1983, during the Dirty War.

Preceded by Portillo and Nina Serrano’s 1979 short film Después de Terremoto (After the Earthquake), about a young Nicaraguan immigrant facing the challenges of life in the United States. (1986, dir. Lourdes Portillo and Susana Muñoz, 64 min.; 1979, Lourdes Portillo and Nina Serrano, Spanish with English subtitles 27 min.)

A Q&A with Portillo follows the screenings.
