Additional Information

Called “the next generation of jazz players” (All About Jazz), the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz brings together the most promising young musicians from around the globe to the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music for intensive training by some of the greatest living jazz masters.

For this performance, Monk Institute Ensemble fellows Mike Cottone (trumpet), Josh Johnson (sax), Eric Miller (trombone), Miro Sprague (piano), Diego Urbano (vibes), Dave Robaire (bass), and Jonathan Pinson (drums) will perform original compositions by each of the students, developed under the guidance of the Institute's distinguished professors Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. They will also feature fresh arrangements of standards by the Institute’s namesake, Thelonious Monk.
